The AWA International Sleeve Label Awards annually recognize the most innovative sleeve products worldwide. They have recently awarded Sleever® the Environmental Contribution Award for the LDPET® product, the first full-body sleeve that enables the recyclability and valorization of PET bottles.
The international brand San Pellegrino has chosen the LDPET® product solution to label its new range of Essenza flavored mineral waters, with effects of transparency and subtle colors. The jury of experts in packaging from AWA (Alexander Watson Associates) International Sleeve Label Awards recognized this achievement for its sustainable approach without compromising the sensory identity of the product.
The unique full-body sleeve compatible with recycling of clear PET containers Since 2014, the LDPET® product, exclusively developed by Sleever®, has been supporting brands in their ecological transition. Its technical characteristics make it the only full-body sleeve on the market that allows for the closed-loop recycling of PET bottles, thus reinforcing the flow of R-PET.
“The recyclability of a clear PET container depends on the behavior of its associated elements, caps, labels/sleeves, and seals. Separation of these elements is required to speak of compatibility with recycling,” explains Sofiane Mameri, Director of Sustainable Development at Sleever®.Approved and recommended since 2014 by recycling associations, European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP) and Association of Plastics Recyclers (APR) for North America, and subject to a certificate issued by Sleever for each project. This LDPET certificate is based on the protocols published by these organizations to confirm that the brand’s product adapts to all stages of sorting and processing of the material.
Its design and density allow, on the one hand, the recognition of the bottle during optical sorting, and on the other hand, easy separation by flotation of the flakes of Clear PET in the separation bath. On sleeves, the inks are non-washable and without bleeding. Thus, during the washing step, the inks remain on the sleeve and do not pollute the washing water or the recycled material.
Without compromising on the creative ambition of brands
With this Environmental Contribution Award, the AWA jury recognized the sustainable value of the LDPET product associated with its ability to preserve the brand’s identity with a premium decoration. Indeed, the Sleeve label, by vocation, embraces like a second skin all the shapes of a container, even the most complex, and stands out as a flexible and creatively rich differentiation solution.
A combination of advantages that makes it a preferred choice for brands on various international markets. In the Mineral Water market, one of the most demanding in terms of technical constraints, volumes, quality, and transparency, Evian, Volvic, or Nestlé, among others, have already adopted the LDPET product to enhance the design of their bottles.
